Alternative Energy stocks were the hot trend throughout 2007 until the market took a turn for the worst. Through this time period and since then a handful of alternative energy ETFs came into existence.

A Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) is simply a security that tracks an index, group of stocks, commodity, etc. but is traded like a stock on a stock exchange. They allow investors to invest in the bigger trend without having to pick and choose individual stocks. Fees are also lower than mutual funds.
