I was a member of the forum and I still have on-occasion access to the newsletter. My honest take on Dan is this: In a bull market he will make a ton of money. He is a fast twitch trader, meaning he has no issues going in early and getting super aggressive really fast. When we eventually bottom here, I would recommend new traders jump on his service.
In a bear market he has still retained that fast twitch and he can get hurt when trades start to break down. Like the commodities and some of his old favorites like POT,MOS,CF. If you are not quick on the exit, you will get really hurt. Period.
