Hot Commodity Trends are Fertilizers, Coal, and Oil

Quick note here for those who have been watching the fertilizers trend boom.

The three stocks I closely monitor in this group are Potash (POT), CF Industries (CF), and Mosaic Company (MOS). Another that has had a stellar run is Intrepid Potash (IPI) which is a recent new issue.

Last week I posted, “Fertilizers Trend Deserves Attention“. Here are the latest price updates:

  • POT stock Last $223.38 (+6.7%)
  • MOS stock Last $149.75 (+15.9%)
  • CF stock Last $151.09 (+7.1%)

Another hot commodity is coal. Alternative energy stocks Alpha Natural Resources (ANR) which we played for 7% in one day and James River Coal Company (JRCC) have had great runs here even with the market tanking. Both of these stocks have direct ties with coal and energy.

Lastly, oil had a great day today and looks poised to test new highs tomorrow. The best way to play oil is to grab some shares of the United States Oil Fund (USO) which is the ETF that tracks the price of light sweet crude.

bought a JRCC call…..very nice momentum stock
unfortunately was strong dollar and sold it same day when commodities are dipping
KOL is also a good way to play (the ETF that tracks coal companies)

the Investment Banks in full control, should see 150 in crude this week, and 200 in 2 weeks. Thank you Goldman and Morgan for causing the next depression in the world.
