Apple Set to Report Earnings After the Bell Today, Vote on Results

Apple Computers (AAPL) is going to report its earnings after the bell today, and you should be interested to see how the stock will react in after hours trading, or trading after 4:00 PM EST when the market closes. How the stock performs after the bell today will surely identify its direction tomorrow.

In light of the new MarketWatch Community launch, I figure that would be a good place to cast our votes.

Before doing that though, take a look at this stock chart of Apple (click to view full chart),

MarketWatch let’s you predict the stock’s close tomorrow, next week, next month and even in 3 months. We are going to try and predict just tomorrow’s close.

Head over to Apple at MarketWatch and to the right of the quote you will see where to vote. I voted up as I think the stock will gap tomorrow but in a small fashion like Google (GOOG) did last week. From there it will follow in Google’s tracks, and for example if Google stock does break down Apple will follow over the coming weeks.

For those that like details, ” Analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial estimate Apple will earn 85 cents a share on $6.05 billion in revenue for the quarter, compared to a profit of 62 cents a share on $4.84 billion in revenue in the year ago quarter.”

What did you vote and why?

I purchased 1 share of Apple for tonight’s earnings. I have this need to purchase contracts before earnings before I really realized what Implied Volatility really meant. I could use a calendar spread if I wanted to use calls on Apple but I’ll play it safe.

We’ll see Apple hit $182 after their earnings even though they always under-deliver and over-perform.

I predict that earnings will exceed expectations but the recent negative bias in the market won’t react as positively as we will expect.

I think the same thing as MDJ, lots of good news already priced into the stock. With the market on shaky ground I really don’t see it flying, even with great earnings.

Looks like in after hours it is jumping, higher by amount 7%. It will be interesting to see if it does the same during the trading day tommorrow or if this is one of those after hours blips. I think it will end up strongly tommorrow, but not quite as much as it is right now.
