I have focused quite a bit on both fundamental and technical analysis on this blog, and my recent post Should Market Research Begin With Technical or Fundamental Analysis got me thinking…
What do you the readers prefer?
Every investor has their own preference, and if you use neither then I have an option for that as well. Here is a quick overview of both though before you vote below:
- Technical analysis is the use of stock charts to determine what investments are good. These types of investors believe that historical performance in individual stocks and the overall market will determine what happens tomorrow.
- Fundamental analysis uses the economy and key facts about the company itself to determine the soundness of an investment. These investors in the end want to place stocks into categories such as “sell,†“buy,†and “holdâ€.

Technical all the way with a dash of fundamentals to keep my mind straight!
In computers we have “plug and pray”, I just re-read your article and saw the pray and play, that’s most like me!
Technicals with fundamental backing all the way. Yahoo! Finance provides great income statements, cash flow, and balance sheets along with SEC filings. Can’t go wrong. Seek out Zagner Report for ultimate technical plays and learn how to do the picks yourself. I’ve had great success and I’m a total noob in comparison.
I use a combination, but tend to lean towards technicals. I won’t trade if the fundamentals are there or at least a good “story” for the stock, but in the end I better see a good trend line I like. I don’t get too fancy with my charts, mainly look for trading channels.
