SteamStreet Makes Good Site Improvements For All Members

After giving the SteamStreet Investment Community a Review back in June of this year, I was interested to see what the site would do over the summer in the improvements area. For those who don’t know the site, SteamStreet offers a place to setup and track multiple fake portfolios as you buy and sell stocks, share notes and comments with friends, and really just track the overall market.

I emailed Jon from the site and asked him to shoot me over some recent updates, here is what Jon had to say,

“Thanks. It’s been a while since your review and lots has changed, but I’ll try to summarize:

We’ve made it much easier to add friends and create your investor network. If you see an investor you like, you can add them to your network with a single click. We’ve also made all collaboration features completely free, so you can specifically configure permissions to your portfolios, exposing specific information to some while hiding it from others.

A couple of new tools are now available to evaluate your trades. You can see each of your holdings performance vs. the S&P 500 since its purchase. And, we evaluate your sales as well, giving you a comparison of the holding vs. the S&P 500 since the sale, to see if the holding ended up going higher after you sold.

We’ve added the ability to comment on portfolios, to give ideas and thoughts on the portfolio’s holdings. Notifications are sent when others in your network make new notes, add portfolio comments, or add/remove holdings from their shared portfolios. And SteamStreet will send daily, weekly, or monthly portfolio updates via email with performance information of your top holdings.

Finally, we’ve also added an iPhone specific site at iphone.steamstreet.com.

We’re still pushing forward with new features and ideas, and your past comments have been important in helping us develop our roadmap for the product.

Thanks so much!”

I signed into my account to see some of these changes in action and noticed that my position in Apple that I bought in my test portfolio at $118.75 is up substantially. I realized I wrote a note on the position and it was still there for me to view a few months later, and I could see how the position was doing compared to the S&P 500.

After browsing around in my account you could tell things were different, and what I can suggest to Jon is really to keep pushing ahead with enhancements and improvements. One thing I would suggest is a way to get the whole community involved right from when I login. It’d be cool to see who the top pickers are (that have the publicly share option on), what stocks the most people own, and when I am in my portfolio allow me to see what other traders own the same stock as me. This would help me connect with other investors that are more like me.Have you used SteamStreet yet? If you are a member, or if you tried it and moved onto something else, I and I am sure Jon would be interested to hear your opinion. How does SteamStreet stack up to the competition such as Covestor (a sponsor here on the blog), and Motley Fool Caps?
