Stock Lingo, Par

I love stock lingo, and par is a perfect example of an easy word you can pull out at the next business dinner through work when the stock market gets brought out.

What does Par mean exactly? Is it similar to golf? A hole in one perhaps? Nope!

Par = $100

Very simple and easy to remember, pay simple represents $100 a share. So for instance just yesterday Apple (APPL) broke $100, or par. Try it out this weekend, go up to a friend, colleague, or family member and mention that Apple hit par this week. They will ask you what that means, and you can bask in the glory of explaining the lingo!

  1. Greetings,
    What do you think of such active trading softwares such as TraderZone.com?

    Does this type of system fit into your trading program?

  2. Never heard of them, checked out the site, are they are a timing software or something? I typically do not support software that simply tells you “buy now” and then “sell here”, oversimplification takes away from the skill of the game :)

  3. Like everything it’s a risky kind of system.
    They have stock momentum calculators. They filter 12000 stocks. Then they calculate the movement of a stock and suggest that it’s going to go up or down.

    I looked at it, but didn’t have the time for the learning curve.

    Most personal finance bloggers that I have read are only interested in long term stock investing. I haven’t read to many blogs about active trading.

  4. That sounds about right, there are tons of systems out there that will do that. I have yet to hear from a colleague that they actually work. :???:

    “I haven’t read to many blogs about active trading.”

    A good chunk of the investor education will be geared at short term trading, it is all I used to do! Plus, it is just more interesting and entertaining.
