American Express Challenge

So, I find this somewhat ironic, and thus my writing about it, but perhaps you guys can make better sense of this than I can. I have been using a credit card for a while now, and just am starting to dip my hands into affiliate programs, and came across American Express. Now, I have tried applying for American Express cards in the past, but with no avail (these guys really just don’t like me). But, wouldn’t you know it, I applied and got accepted to their affiliate program, what the heck?! With such controversy, I am now on a mission to see someone successfully apply and be accepted by these guys.

If you can get accepted for one of their credit cards, and email me exclaiming your success, I’ll give you half of the referral fees (which can be up to 50 smackers). On top of that, I will proudly post your name and plaster your website up (if you have one) right here in this very post.

American Express

How can American Express accept my affiliate application but DENY my own credit card applications, who do they think they are? It is a sick sad world I tell ya, a sick sad world!

04/06 UPDATE: Chris has informed me he has had a Amex card for several years, though it isn’t a new application it is still good for some link loving, shoot him over a congrats would ya?

Do I count? Been a member of Amex for several years but I didn’t apply until I was 25 (visa and mastercard before that).

What’s you credit history like? Good or bad? Do you have a history of credit? How many cards do you have? etc… Something is stopping you.

Well, that’s because the credit approval department and the affiliate promotions and marketing department are different and they are probably not even co-located. The marketing department will not know nor be bothered if an application to that affiliate marketing program is by someone with a good credit rating or not.

That is very interesting. I didn’t even know there were any affiliate programs for credit cards. Are there other credit card companies besides American Express that offer affiliate programs?

Hmm, I’m going to have to see if they have a Canadian affiliate program.

I also applied for my Amex after having a Visa and MasterCard for four years. I think I got it when I was 22. I ended up using it the most out of any of my cards, so it has the highest limit out of all of them.

Chris, I’ll add your name to the post and send you some link lovin, but can’t send you any cash, they won’t give referral fees for this circumstance (which is really just a shame if you ask me) twisted

Jason, that is well said. Major bump, it kind of hit me after I wrote the post, but the intensity at the time of the writing was real.

Chris, there most definitely is, here is a link directly to join linkshare, which are the guys who I have my Amex affiliate through amongst others (takes like 2 minutes, and you’ll make me a solid $1.50),

Investoid, I think that is my problem, I just simply haven’t had a credit card long enough. It has only been several months since I got my first, I am convinced this is the answer. Btw, do you get reward points with that bad boy?

Amex is good and we (wife and I) rack up major points but we do better with the continental card with one-pass miles. Our trip to Hawaii next week comes with free airfare (both tickets – NYC to Honolulu) due to points from both Amex and continental. We transferred our amex points to the one pass program in order to have enough. One ticket to Hawaii requires some major points but we charge everything to get these points. I even tried to find out if I could charge my mortgage but this is not possible. We do pay off everything at the end of the month so debt won’t pile up. It makes sense: instead of linking our bills to the checking account and shopping on a debit card, we link it to amex or our continental card so we get massive points. Our airfare for trips is always free due to this strategy.

Also, I am using the amex for rental car insurance in Hawaii – they have excellent additional coverage and rates (did this in Portugal two years back, not bad for international travel coverage).
