Stock Trading Contest 3rd Update!
WOW, this contest just gets better and better! Tonight we have a double trader spotlight with interviews of both Wendy Piersal and Frugal Trader, and you will NOT believe what they had to say (I don’t know about everyone else but the sandwich question is my favorite, makes me hungry every time)! But before we get to that though, let’s cut to the good stuff, the point standings please?
POINTS UPDATES
Alright, well things have been pretty crazy in the market. Too bad this week isn’t another Guess the Nasdaq Close Contest, where is Julie when we need her to predict the market!? The Nadsaq traded all the way down to 2400 before gaining support (check out the chart on the right)!
Investoid, Frugal Trader, and Derrich all had one of their two stocks end the day in the green (good for 500 points each), and Jim Kingsland had one positive close alongside an even close (DNDN was suspended from trading due to the FDA drug news), so what the heck does the rule book say about this? To be honest, I have no idea, so we’ll just give Jim 500 points for it, and we will pretend this never happened… Emom Wendy Piersal saw her double weighted pick end in the red today, but thats ok because she celebrated “Tell a Blogger You Love Them Day” today, and she’s happy regardless!
THE LEADERBOARD
- Derrich – 5,600 Points
- Wendy – 4,000 Points
- Frugal Trader – 4,000 Points
- Jim Kingsland – 3,500 Points
- Investoid – 800 Points
Heading into our last day Derrich is holding a 1,600 point lead over Wendy and Frugal (who are now tied) for first place overall, but tomorrow’s market will determine who’s picks ending up performing the best. Just to let new readers know, the person with the best AVERAGE return between their two picks earns 10,000 bonus points to their score!
UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT, WENDY AND FRUGAL
1. You chose ADBE as your stock pick, why?
I used to be a graphic designer, so I know first hand how Adobe pretty much single-handedly transformed an industry. There are processes that are as obsolete as 8 track tapes thanks to this company. Their PDF format is an industry-standard, and can only grow and add to their business. Google could become a threat if they wanted to enter the space, but the PDF is pretty untouchable, imho. And Google sticks to online things, whereas Adobe owns the print world. I don’t think Google will go there, and Microsoft has failed miserably when it tried. With the purchase of their primary competitor (Macromedia), their top-notch products, and dedication to innovation, I can see nothing but great things for Adobe for a long time to come.
2. Has the contest spurred any interest in the stock market? If so, what in particular?
I think I’m more interested in networking with silly stock market bloggers than the actual stock market. You guys are fun to hang with!! J Seriously, after coming home from Elite Retreat, I could only wish I had the time to dive into learning more about the stock market. My next hill to conquer is affiliate marketing. Then maybe I’ll take on the Dow.
3. Readers have to know Wendy, what is your favorite kind of sandwich?
Fave sandwich, eh? I’m more of a salad person myself. But I’m also a cheese freak, so I guess I’d have to say grilled cheese with tomato.
1. You chose JNJ and GOOG as your two picks, why?
I chose JNJ because it is a super strong company with great fundamentals that has been beaten up lately. It looked from a technical standpoint that it was time to buy. Perhaps it was too soon. I picked GOOG because of it’s volatility. Again, strong company, but technically it looked as though it was time to buy.
2. Would you say you are more of a fundamental trader or a technical trader?
I would say that i’m both a fundamental and technical trader. I try to incorporate both philosophies before buying/selling stock. I usually pick strong fundamental companies and use technicals to pick my buy/sell points.
3. Lastly, readers have to know Frugal, what is your favorite kind of sandwich?
Ah, the sandwich question. You can tell a lot about a person based on their sandwich choice. For me.. I thoroughly enjoy the Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich with extra steak.
Closing Remarks
Thanks again to Wendy and Frugal for taking time to be in our spotlight tonight! The contest has been a blast thus far for me, and I hope our contestants have had just as much fun. I want everyone to know though that tomorrow I will be leaving before the market closes to go out of town until Sunday! As a result, our LAST contest update and the winner will be announced on Sunday!! If anything, this will just heighten the overall mood and create more excitement right? And with this update aside, I now am going to go to bed and imagine eating a delicious philly cheesesteak sandwich… mmm… ya, I’ll take the extra steak too!

What? No points for the Spotlight?
I had better get my game on!
Sadly not, I am sorry :p I was going to give out points for whoever chose the best sandwich, but Jim is still left for his spotlight, and to be honest I can’t really decide…
LOL @ ADBE! Muahahahaha!!!
